POSITANO, ITALY

The picturesque town of Positano is located on the Amalfi Coast, just 60 km from Naples itself. The magnificent resort is located in a scattering of colorful houses at the very foot of the Lattari Mountains, on three small valleys.

According to legend, Positano was created by the God of the Seas Poseidon, who built the city in honor of his beloved Pasitea. It is believed that the name of the city came from the name of this nymph.

Positano was considered a prestigious aristocratic resort back in Roman times. Beautiful villas and unspoilt nature attracted the rich and noble people of the empire, who came here on vacation. After the Roman Empire fell, the city became part of the Republic of Amalfi.

Many famous personalities lived in Positano, such as, for example, Rudolf Nureyev, Diaghilev, Stravinsky. Famous painters painted their paintings here, and directors from all over the world shot about three dozen films in Positano.
