CALA DI VOLPE, SARDINIA

Day 2

This ultra-luxe, traditional village-inspired resort outside of Porto Cervo boasts not just a steady flow of discerning international visitors, but also one of the most stunning stretches of beach in Sardinia. On an island whose coastline is made up almost exclusively of endless, powdery white beaches, that’s quite a claim. Pamper yourself with a day lounging on plush chaises here, swimming in the surprisingly clear waters, ogling the lush rolling hills, and discover the Aga Khan’s idea of luxury. If you can bear to peel yourself away, venture inland for a day trip of bicycling between vineyards and quaint villages.

Day 3

Porto Cervo is often known as “Porto Nuovo” and is the main centre in Costa Smeralda, located in the gulf of the same name in northern Sardinia (Italy). The village itself was designed by the famous Architect, Luigi Vietti, and the entire project was conceived and commissioned by Prince Karim Aga Khan in the 1960’s. As a result, it has become one of the most renowned luxury destinations in the world, featuring streets lined with designer boutiques and world-class restaurants, and a marina always full of yachts. Indulge in spa treatments at such acclaimed spas as Blue Mediterraneo at the exclusive Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, spend the day wandering between shops and elegantly manicured parks, or just relax by the water with a glass of Sardinian wine. If you’re in a beach mood, the best nearby is at Cala Crano

BONIFACIO, CORSICA

Day 5

Perched atop dramatic white limestone cliffs that plunge down into turquoise waters, this historic town at the southern tip of Corisca has become in recent years a favoured destination of the world’s cognoscenti looking to relax. While its imposing cliffs are supposed to have once harboured Odysseus - and the race of malevolent giants he encountered - Bonifacio has long since become a laid-back beach town with excellent cuisine and maritime antique shops. While you’ll dock in the fjord-like harbour inlet, plan to spend most of your time in the Haute Ville, the upper part of the city, which sits on the site of a 9th-century citadel. Climb up the 187 steps to the top of the city, if you’re feeling athletic, and meander through the quiet streets, lined with homes and shops untouched for centuries. Savour traditional Corsican specialties at Cantina Doria, swim in the crystal-clear waters off the quiet beaches, and stock up on medieval maps at antique stores like Mer et Découvertes. When you move on, swing by the small Isles Lavezzi, the southernmost part of France.

Day 6

Located within the impressive Scandola Nature Reserve, this protected area is considered one of the most spectacular and scenic places on the Corsican coast. The town itself is perched just above the glassy waters of the bay, its renowned Genoese tower and traditional stone houses accessible only by water. Isolated as such, these pale buildings form a virtual island amidst the dramatic green hills and deep sapphire waters, making for one of Corsica’s most dramatic sights. You could easily explore the surrounding fertile hills (known as “the garden of Corsica”) and secluded coves for days; before you pry yourself away, be sure to pay a visit to the striking red cliffs nearby in the nature reserve.
